Digital Champions is an exciting new programme. It aims to provide local older people with the technology, skills and confidence, to be able to use their own devices (such as tablets, smart phones and computers), to browse the internet and get the most from digital services.

Could you benefit from exploring what the internet has to offer and learn new digital skills?

We understand some older people find using technology daunting. However, building confidence and learning how to use technology can open up many exciting ways to communicate with friends and family and help access vital services that are increasingly ‘digital first’.

The Digital Champion Programme will offer free one to one, group or virtual sessions tailored to your needs.

They can show you how to:

Use digital devices (smartphone, tablet, or laptop)
How to set up online shopping and health service apps
Use a digital device to keep in touch with family, friends
How to stay safe online, protect your identity, data and personal information
How to identify scam emails and fake websites
Assistance with the installation and setup of household digital appliances

ll Digital Champions are specially trained to provide digital support to older people and have undergone a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) Check.

One-to-one sessions can take place in your home if necessary, in a community venue or at Age UK Salford and Trafford office in Urmston.

Which device?

We can show you how to use a laptop computer, an iPad / Tablet, smartphone or Android or any digital device.

Training Opportunities

Our Digital Champions will be providing both one-to-one, and group training sessions, to make sure you get the most from your devices and the internet.

Become a volunteer Digital Champion

We need your help! While many older people have embraced digital technology, there are many others who are less confident and are at risk of missing out.

A volunteer Digital Champion is someone who is trained and supported to inspire others to get online and can spend some time showing them how.

You don’t need to be a technology whizz! Instead, all you need is:

• A love for meeting new people
• A willingness to help others
• Enjoying being online
• Confidence with basic technology use, for example tablets and smartphones
