Day Care Activity Volunteer

Do you have a hobby, interest or skill you’d love to share with others?
We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to lead engaging sessions for older people coming to our day centres. You could spark creativity, connection and joy in someone’s day.
From arts and crafts to creative writing, gentle exercise, music and movement, storytelling or history talks, we welcome all ideas. If you can inspire, we’d love to hear from you.
You’ll be supported by our friendly team and we’ll provide all the materials you need. All you need to bring is your time, your enthusiasm and your willingness to connect.
All we ask is that you are:
- age 18 or over
- available sessions from Monday to Friday, 10.30am – 11.30am and/or 1.30pm – 2.30pm
- honest, reliable and friendly
- able to offer one or more sessions a week
Role description
You will be given full details of the role. This in no way implies or states that a contract of employment is or will be offered. This is a voluntary unpaid role.
What your day could involve
- Creating a warm, welcoming environment where every client feels acknowledged and included.
- Leading or supporting engaging sessions by sharing your own skills, interests or passions with clients.
- Designing and delivering activities on a one-to-one or group basis - this could include crafts, art, creative writing, exercise other ineractive ideas.
- Encouraging day centre clients to join in, adapting activities to suit people's different abilities and interests.
- Ensuring client safety is paramount at all times.
- Working collaboratively with our team to plan and deliver enriching experiences for our clients.
Your responsibilities

- be courteous and professional at all times
- arrive in good time for your shift and let the Service Manager know in advance if you're unable to attend

Some important points
- Do not discuss finances or confidential information about clients, staff or other volunteers with anyone.
- You must never lift a client for any reason. If they fall on the floor, it is your responsibilty to reassure them, keep them warm and comfortable and ask for assistance.
- Do not give advice on matters other than those directly involved with your role.
- Enhanced DBS will be required and applied for by Age UK Northamptonshire.
