Age UK Barnsley now provide a Handyperson and Gardening Service, which will help to support Barnsley residents aged 50+ with basic DIY jobs and garden maintenance.

What is the Handyperson/Gardening Service?

Residents who are struggling with basic DIY jobs and maintaining their garden who need a little extra help are encouraged to contact our Handyperson/Gardening Service.

During the current cost-of-living crisis, this service provides a very affordable alternative for older people in Barnsley and will make a big difference to older people who might be struggling with jobs around the house and in the garden.

Services we provide

• Key Safe Fitting
• Fitting curtain rails and basic shelving
• Fitting smoke detectors/carbon monoxide alarms
• Fitting security items such as door chains
• Hanging pictures and mirrors
• Repairing loose fitting cupboard doors and drawers
• Assembling/Dissembling flat pack furniture
• Changing light bulbs
• Moving furniture
• Any other basic DIY jobs will be considered upon request

** Please note that this service is not intended to provide complex or skilled labour solutions and does not replace qualified tradespeople **

Fees and charges

Please also note that this is a charged for service with a minimum 1 hour labour charge of £20 per hour plus VAT (incl VAT £24 per hour). Please note there will be an extra charge for any equipment/materials supplied. We would encourage you to fit in as many small jobs as possible within your hour appointment!
