PRESS RELEASE: LOCAL CORNISH MS GROUP ANNOUNCES A PARTNERSHIP WITH AGE UK CORNWALL & ISLES OF SCILLY FOR PEOPLE WITH MS.

The Multiple Sclerosis Society South & West Cornwall group is working with Age UK Cornwall & Isles of Scilly to provide an information & guidance service to clients with MS, with the help of funding from the National Lottery Community Fund.

The initiative follows a donation of £10,000 from the National Lottery to the MS Society to fund sessions, which will be held across Cornwall in any of the 63 Age UK Cornwall partners’ hubs, or via home visits.

Fiona Salamone, of the MS Society South and West Cornwall Group, said:

“This is an exciting opportunity to help us reach more people with MS and give them specialist support on issues such as disability benefits, grants for equipment and home adaptations as well as signposting them to other information & services such as health professionals & social services. This will further enable us to help people with MS so that they can concentrate on managing their condition and leading a fuller life.”

Around 2,000 people have MS in Cornwall. The local MS Society group looks to improve the lives of people affected by MS through monthly support group meetings and social activities. They offer emotional, practical and financial support providing a platform for people to discuss their own individual circumstances while gaining knowledge from other people's own experiences and creating our own local MS family.

Kelvin Yates from Age UK Cornwall and Isles of Scilly said:

“We are pleased to be working with the MS Society as there are many people, and their families, unaware of the support that is available and how to access it. This is a great opportunity to help people living with MS to access support from both organisations and our other partners”
