A wonderful gift of kindness from Truro Lions

Published on 03 July 2026 07:48 AM

We were thrilled to be invited to a presentation and lunch, hosted by the Truro Lions on Sunday, June 28, where we warmly welcomed as the principal guests alongside Cornwall Hospice.

The outgoing President, Julian Collinson, had selected both charities as his charitable focus for the year; the Lions' volunteers and members have been extremely busy collecting donations on our behalf at the Truro Christmas Market and Easter events earlier this year - but the exact donation amount had remained a mystery!

After enjoying a delightful Sunday roast at Truro Golf Club, where over 40 Lions gathered to hear the announcements, it was a true joy to discover that a cheque for £1,600.00 was donated to Age UK Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly’s hardship fund.

Representing our charity, Tim Guy expressed our gratitude and took the opportunity to share further details about our Hardship Fund, which often experiences a shortfall, especially three months before Christmas. He explained how we would allocate their generous contribution directly to this pressing cause and noted the difference in will make to people who call our Helpline.

Julian, our gracious host, then presented two giant cheques for our commemorative photograph, which you can see above, before officially passing his chain of office to the new Chair in a time-honored ceremony.

We all agreed to stay connected, looking forward to many future collaborations on shared causes.

Thank you once again. Everyone associated with the club has made a huge difference to our cause, and a positive impact will be felt throughout local communities.
