Let’s Dunk, Munch and Celebrate - National Biscuit Day at Oaklands Café!
Published on 02 May 2025 10:00 AM
At Age UK Hythe, Lyminge and Ashford, we believe that life’s little pleasures often lead to life’s biggest joys - and what could be more comforting, more British, and more delightfully simple than a biscuit with a cuppa?
That’s why we’re excited to invite you to join us on Thursday 29th May 2025 at Oaklands Café for a very special celebration of National Biscuit Day. We’ll be handing out a FREE biscuit with every drink (while our tasty stock lasts) so whether you like to dunk, nibble or crunch, we’ve got your perfect treat waiting.
Why Biscuits Deserve a Day of Their Own
They might seem humble, but biscuits have been cheering up tea breaks, lunchboxes and coffee catch-ups for generations. From the buttery shortbread that melts on your tongue to the satisfying snap of a ginger nut, every biscuit has a story - and often, a memory - behind it.
We know from our regular café visitors that it’s never just about the snack. It’s the shared moment. The gentle conversation. The pause in the day. That’s what we’re really celebrating on Biscuit Day: those simple, golden minutes where we feel connected, relaxed, and cared for.
So on the 29th, we’re throwing open the doors of Oaklands Café and inviting the whole community to come in for a drink, a biscuit, and a proper catch-up.

Crumbs of Curiosity: Biscuit Trivia to Impress Your Friends
We couldn’t resist sharing a few of our favourite biscuit facts - perfect for sparking conversation over your cuppa:
- Karate vs Digestives? It’s true - someone once broke 18 digestive biscuits in a row with a karate chop!
- Where does the word come from? “Biscuit” comes from the French bis-cuit, meaning “twice cooked” - clever, right?
- A Titanic biscuit? A single biscuit from a Titanic lifeboat sold for over £3,500 at auction. Talk about a pricey dunker!
So if you think your biscuit chat is limited to “jammy dodger or bourbon?”, we promise - there’s more where that came from.
More Than Just a Treat
At Age UK Hythe, Lyminge and Ashford, every event - no matter how light-hearted - has a deeper purpose. We’re here to create moments of connection. To give people of all ages, especially older members of our community, the chance to feel part of something welcoming and familiar.
For some, popping in for a biscuit might be the highlight of their week. For others, it’s the beginning of new friendships. And for all of us, it’s a reminder that joy often comes in the simplest of packages - like a biscuit shared across a table.
Bring Someone Along
Know someone who could use a break from their routine? Maybe a neighbour who lives alone, or a relative who hasn’t been out in a while? Bring them along. We’d love to meet them, share a brew, and welcome them into our café family.
And if you're part of a local club, walking group or just have a few biscuit-loving friends, spread the word. Everyone’s welcome, and the more, the merrier.
Biscuits + Community = A Recipe for a Lovely Day
National Biscuit Day might not be a bank holiday (yet!), but at Age UK Hythe, Lyminge and Ashford, we think it’s worth celebrating. Come along, enjoy a biscuit on us, and experience the warmth of a community that always has time for a cuppa and a chat.
We’ll have the kettle on, the biscuits ready, and a seat saved just for you.
See you on the 29th!
