New Dementia Support Services Launch at Age UK Ashford

Age UK Hythe, Lyminge & Ashford is pleased to share an important update from our Ashford services, with the launch of new and continued dementia support programmes designed to enhance wellbeing, maintain independence, and support both individuals and their carers.

From Monday 16th February, we are introducing Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (MCST) at our Ashford Centre. MCST is an evidence-based programme specifically developed for people living with mild dementia. It is designed to help maintain memory, thinking skills, and mental functioning through structured, meaningful, and enjoyable activities.

The programme runs for 24 weeks, with sessions held weekly for 1 hour and 30 minutes. Participants take part in group-based activities in a friendly and supportive environment, encouraging conversation, engagement, and confidence. As well as the cognitive benefits, MCST provides valuable opportunities for social connection, helping people build friendships and feel less isolated.

Two MCST sessions will be available, depending on demand:

• Session 1: 10.30am – 12.00pm
• Session 2: 1.30pm – 3.00pm

Each session costs £12.00, with the option to stay for a freshly prepared two-course lunch for £9.50. This flexible approach allows individuals and families to choose what best suits their needs.

In addition to MCST, our Day Services at Age UK Ashford continue to offer essential support for people living with moderate to late-stage dementia who may require additional care. Day Services provide activity-based day care in a safe and secure environment, supporting participants to enjoy a meaningful day while giving family members and carers valuable time for rest or other commitments.

Day Services are available on Thursdays and Fridays and cost £52.00 per day, which includes all activities and a freshly cooked two-course lunch. Transport is also available for those who need it, at an additional cost of £13.00.
