We’re Finalists at the Kent Charity Awards – And Proud as Punch About It
Published on 15 June 2025 03:17 PM
We’ve got a bit of brilliant news to share — Age UK Hythe, Lyminge and Ashford has officially been named a finalist in this year’s Kent Charity Awards.
No, we’re not making it up. And no, we haven’t been nominated for “Best Tea and Biscuit Distribution” (although we’d probably win that too). This is the real deal — a nod from the county that the work we’re doing is being seen, appreciated, and respected.
It’s not every day we get to say something like that, and we’re absolutely chuffed. This isn’t just about recognition. It’s about the work we’ve put in — day in, day out — to support older people across our communities. And now, it’s been seen. Appreciated. Celebrated. That means the world to us.
We’ve always tried to keep our heads down and just get on with the job — but every now and then, a moment like this reminds us why we do it. And gives us a chance to say thank you to everyone who helps us along the way.
A Bit About the Kent Charity Awards
If you’re not familiar, the Kent Charity Awards shine a light on the organisations and people who give their time, energy and hearts to helping others across the county. It’s a chance to recognise those who work behind the scenes — often without applause — to make life better for others.
So, to be named a finalist among so many outstanding charities is something we don’t take lightly. We’re deeply honoured — and quietly proud.
Why It Matters
Here at Age UK Hythe, Lyminge and Ashford, we’ve always believed in showing up. Whether that’s delivering a hot meal to someone living alone, offering a bit of friendly company, or supporting families through difficult moments — our job is to be there when people need us.
This nomination helps put a spotlight on that mission. On the idea that no one should be forgotten, no matter their age, their situation, or what life has thrown their way.
We’re not a flashy organisation. But we are a persistent one. And we care — a lot.
The Heart of Our Work? The People Behind It
This moment belongs to our team — every one of them. The staff who work tirelessly, often going above and beyond. The volunteers who bring light and laughter with them wherever they go. The supporters, fundraisers, and local partners who keep us afloat.
This nomination reflects what’s possible when good people rally around a common cause. And it’s a reminder that kindness, when done consistently, can move mountains.
Reflecting on the Journey
Like many charities, we’ve faced tough times — especially in recent years. The pandemic challenged us in ways we’d never seen before. Services had to shift overnight. People who were already isolated became more so. But instead of backing down, we found new ways to connect. To support. To make sure people still felt seen and cared for.
This award doesn’t mean we’ve reached the end. Far from it. But it does give us a rare moment to pause and reflect on how far we’ve come — and how many people we’ve reached along the way.
So, What’s Next?
The Kent Charity Awards ceremony is happening later this year, and we’ll be there — alongside a host of other inspiring organisations — to celebrate the incredible work being done across Kent.
Whether we bring home a trophy or not, we’ll be there with full hearts. Because this is about more than awards. It’s about community. Connection. And continuing to do the work that matters most.
Keep an eye on our socials and website — we’ll be sharing updates from the evening!
Thank You to Our Community
From Hythe to Lyminge to Ashford and beyond — thank you. Whether you’ve come to a fundraiser, booked our home meal delivery service, volunteered your time, or simply told someone else about what we do — you’ve made this possible.
It’s easy to underestimate the power of small acts of support. But trust us, we notice them. And they add up.
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again — we’re not just a charity, we’re a community.
