Joined-up support for people living with dementia

Published on 04 March 2026 02:23 PM

A series of events supporting people living with dementia and their families is taking place across Worcestershire. Age UK Wyvern have teamed up with local care services and care home providers to run “Dementia Care Connection Days”, offering a range of help and advice in one location.

One successful event has already taken place in Droitwich, where attendees talked to organisations about housing, care and where to find social and support groups. Councillor Rick Deller talked about his experience of the event: “It was amazing to see so many dementia-led services coming together to support our town, all represented by such dedicated and passionate people. Kelly and Tanya are doing an incredible job in bringing these organisations together. The event was not only a fantastic source of information for residents and families, but also a valuable opportunity for attendees to network, collaborate and strengthen the support available locally. A truly fantastic event for our community.”

Kelly Reeves, Dementia Services Manager at Age UK Wyvern, talked about the value of these events, “One in three of us will develop dementia and it’s essential that this condition is properly understood. Knowing what support is available, understanding options, and having open conversations can make a huge difference to confidence, wellbeing and peace of mind for individuals and families.”

Dementia is an increasing issue affecting society up and down the country. It’s estimated that by 2040 there wil 1.3 million l be 1.3 million people living with the condition. Today, unpaid carers looking after loved ones with dementia save the economy an estimated £13.0 billion per year, but they often do so at the cost of their own health and wellbeing.

Age UK Wyvern can provide a listening ear for those affected, as well as practical help such as applying for benefits and trips out. Through the help of volunteers, the organisation runs nine Dementia Cafés across Worcestershire which offer activities and a chance to socialise in a friendly environment. The organisation’s Maintenance and Cognitive Stimulation Therapy sessions have proved extremely popular, providing activities to maintain memory and mental functioning.
