Age UK Barnsley is a registered independent local charity founded in 1974. Our aim is to support the health and wellbeing of all older people living in the Barnsley borough.

Here at Age UK Barnsley our mission is to promote the wellbeing, independence, dignity, choice and inclusion of older people in the Barnsley area. In particular, those who are disadvantaged through ill-health, disability, poverty, or social exclusion.

We offer a wide range of services, including social inclusion; information and advice; day services and much, much more for people aged 50+. Trustees (Voluntary role)

Age UK Barnsley has a Board of Trustees that sets our goals, strategic objectives and outcomes and measures delivery in line with our vision and mission statement.

Our Trustees have independent control over, and legal responsibility for, the charity’s management and administration. They are also responsible for the corporate governance of the organisation and report annually to the Charity Commission and Companies House.

As part of our ongoing programme of Board development, we are now carrying out our recruitment for Trustees for our Charity, Age UK Barnsley.

Trustees are elected for three-year terms and can serve for up to three terms. We are looking to expand our board and would particularly welcome applicants from one or more of the following backgrounds:

  • Legal
  • Financial
  • Human Resources
  • Carer of individual(s) accessing older people’s services in Barnsley
  • Black and ethnic minority applicants

The successful candidate(s) will join a strong Board which is highly regarded within the national Age UK network. It has overseen the development of a charity which has a growing staff team and a strong financial position.
