The programme, funded by Lloyds Banking Group, helps to prevent those 50+ from falling for scams by increasing their knowledge and confidence to recognise and deal with attempted scams. It will also provide support to older fraud victims recovering after an incident.
Our service is delivered in the following ways
Awareness Talks and Drop Ins
As part of our service we provide awareness talks or workshops.
The talks can be delivered online, at our local Age UK Leeds office or across different locations in the community. We aim to reach older people from lots of different backgrounds.
Attendees can be an older person, their family and friend or people working/ volunteering in organisations in their communities that have regular contact with people aged 50+.
We also attend events, stalls and venues to hold information sessions to communities, raising awareness of scams and the support we offer individuals.
Individual Advice Sessions
Our individual sessions are confidential and provided face to face or over the telephone.
We can provide individual sessions for anyone over 50+. This includes those who may have been a victim of a scam, those who are living alone, those who are recently bereaved and those who are housebound or socially isolated.
We can also offer support to those who have already been a victim of scam and support with signposting and referrals to assist where possible.
Many of those who attend an individual session have attended one of our group talks or community events and wish to know more information which can be tailored to personal circumstances in a confidential way.
