Why not get involved and help Age UK North Yorkshire & Darlington?

If you would like to get involved, there are lots of things you can do. Whether you want to give your time by volunteering, take part in a fundraising event, or help with our campaigns, your help would be much appreciated.

Some of our fantastic volunteers!

Edna is one of our amazing Kitchen volunteers who has been with us for years! Always with a smile and chat, she's a superstar!

Alison, Dennis and Kevin sat having a catch up and cuppa before heading out on the road. They are some of our wonderful Meals at Home drivers; delivering hot meals to our customers across Darlington.

Shelia volunteers in our cafe but is best known for making our mouthwatering cakes and scones! Our very own Delia Smith!

Our Volunteer Roles:

Do you have a few spare hours a week, recently retired and looking for something new to do, or a younger person looking to gain new experiences?
We are always looking for new volunteers to join us, whether you want to help out on reception, create a new activity or help deliver our hot meals, there is something for everyone! We have many volunteer roles for different experience levels and different ages- get in touch for a volunteer application pack.
Please note all volunteers will need a DBS check (provided by Age UK NYD).
You can commit to the same time each week or volunteer on an adhoc basis- even an hour or two is greatly appreciated.

Kitchen Volunteers

From taking orders in the cafe, helping to wash up, clearing tables and helping to prepare the food there are many different ways you can help with our cafe. All we need is a can do attitude and a friendly face for our customers.

Driver Volunteers

Our Driver volunteers are essential to deliver Meals in the local communtiy, providing a friendly face to those who may not see another person all day. If you have a license and your own car then we would love for you to get in touch. We deliver meals 7 days a week to the community.

We are always on the lookout for someone who is able to help drive our mini bus- from collecting our day care customers, to driving our lunch club customers, to the occasional longer trip- if you have Category D on your license and some free time then this could be for you!

Reception Volunteers

Have you got a friendly personality and a wish to help people? Can you lend a friendly ear and support to those that need it? Our reception volunteer position is a varied and sociable role- from meeting and greeting customers to our building, to answering phone calls and sending emails- no day is the same on reception.

Day Care Volunteers

We have some amazing customers that attend our Day Care, you can help us by making cups of tea (and don't forget the biscuits!), help setting up the games and activities as well as joining in, helping set up for lunch and having a chat with our customers. With a team of experienced, bubbly and friendly carers you can leave knowing you've made a difference whilst having a great time doing it!

Befriending Volunteers

What does a befriending volunteer role look like?
Weekly Home Visits, enjoy a friendly chat and a cup of tea. Trips out walking and talking, get some fresh air and good company on a leisurely stroll. Regular Phone Calls, a check in or a cheerful chat to stay connected.
Or join one of our Activities at Bradbury House, join in social events, games or crafts in a welcoming environment. We all need someone to talk to, but did you know some older people go an entire month without speaking to anyone? You could be that someone!

Event and Activity Volunteers

In Darlington and across North Yorkshire we have lots of different one off events and activities taking place, from fundraisers and events to stalls at shopping centres- all aimed to raise funds and awareness about Age UK North Yorkshire and Darlington and the work we do.
At Bradbury House we have a variety of different activities that take place during the week, Volunteers are needed to help meet and greet customers, assist with enquiries about activities, help with new applications, helping arrange rooms and tables and organising paperwork.
Our activities are a great way to meet new people, gain a new hobby or come to a place to relax!
Do you have an idea or a new activity and want to lead it? Or would you like to go out and about in the community to help raise awareness and funds? Let us know!
