An Evening of Song and Smiles in Rotherham
Local choir, Friends in Harmony, put on a fabulous evening raising over £1,100 to help older people in Rotherham. The concert was held at St Francis Church Bramley on Saturday 26 April, and with a showcase of songs from musicals; classical songs and pop songs, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
Friends in Harmony are based in Rotherham, but have members from all over South Yorkshire, they often put their musical talent to good use to raise money for charities and wanted to do a special concert for Age UK Rotherham to mark the charity's 40th anniversary.
The choir is under the leadership of Musical Director Graham Cowley who has many years of experience with choral groups and musical theatre, and along with accompanist, Catherine Sarjeant, who is also well experienced with musical groups, they made sure it was a fabulous show.
The concert was one of many activities that will mark the 40th anniversary of Age UK Rotherham who work tirelessly to help older people across the borough. One of the charity's trustees, Katrina Cleary, who recently joined the choir, said "It's a wonderful thing to be part of a choir. Singing lifts your spirits and the spirit of others and it's great that we can do this whilst raising money for such a good cause at the same time.
With around 60 members the choir is a friendly and sociable group who meet to rehearse every Tuesday at St Francis Church Bramley. They are open to new recruits, with no audition needed, you just need to enjoy singing and be able to hold a tune. You can find out more by emailing friendsinharmony@virginmedia.com
