We're currently recruiting dedicated and passionate individuals to join our Board of Trustees.

As part of this process, we wanted to introduce you to our current Board and share a little more information about their background, interests and skills.

Last up is Sue Gallagher, who has been a trustee for six years:

“I have lived in Allerdale since 1971; I was a Primary School Teacher and then Teaching Assistant trainer.

In 2000 I became full time carer for my husband who died in 2010. By then we had become involved in many Health and Care Services, but it was all very disjointed and confusing. So I decided to stay involved in order to see if a carer’s perspective could help improve things.

Six years ago, I became a trustee for Age UK West Cumbria. This role is important to me, as we often work with the same clients who use those Health and Care services. Whether people need help tackling loneliness, aids and equipment to help them live independently, or advice about their financial situation, it is vital that we work in an integrated way with other services to provide a smooth journey for those who need support.

Outside my role as a trustee I enjoy travel, watercolour painting, concerts and exploring our beautiful country with friends. I have just recently completed a tour of all forty-two Anglican Cathedrals in England.

For anyone thinking about becoming a trustee, I would encourage you to apply – you get so much back. As well as giving your time and enthusiasm, you get to challenge your own views and meet people from different walks of life."
