Age UK Barnsley in partnership with BMBC held an Age Friendly Barnsley Conference on Friday 6th October 2017 at Priory Campus, Lundwood.
We need Barnsley to be an age friendly place so that we can live healthy and fulfilling older lives - its part of all our futures.
For the event to be successful we needed two particular groups of people to come to conference:
We needed people who have experience of what it is like to grow older in the Barnsley Borough. This may come from ageing e.g. being over 50 or from caring for an older person in your family or from working with older people.
We needed people who work in organisations that can make systems and facilities more age friendly in order to celebrate what we already have and to change things for the better.
There were key speakers on the day and the conference had workshops that focused on six main themes:
- Outdoor spaces and buildings
- Social participation, respect and inclusion
- Civic participation and employment
- Community support and health services
We have attached all presentations from the conference which you can download if required. We will also place updates on our website along with the key aims from all the workshops and the progression of any aims.
