A friendly face can make all the difference.
Our In Person Befriending Service connects people aged 50+ with a friendly volunteer who can provide regular companionship through face-to-face visits. Whether it's enjoying a chat over a cup of tea, sharing interests or simply spending time together, our volunteers are here to help reduce loneliness and build meaningful friendships.
Everyone deserves to feel connected, and we're here to help people enjoy greater confidence, companionship and wellbeing in later life.
How does In Person Befriending work?
We'll take the time to get to know you, your interests and what you're looking for. We then carefully match you with one of our friendly volunteers based on your personality, hobbies and availability.
Once you're matched, your volunteer will visit you regularly, giving you something to look forward to each week.
What can we do together?
Every friendship is unique, but visits might include:
- Enjoying a cup of tea and a chat
- Playing board games or cards
- Sharing hobbies and interests
- Looking through photographs and memories
- Reading together
- Taking a gentle walk (where appropriate)
- Simply enjoying good company
The focus is on building a genuine friendship and helping you feel more connected.
Who is the service for?
Our In Person Befriending Service is available for people aged 50+ living in the Barnsley borough who would benefit from regular companionship and social connection.
Whether you live alone, have recently experienced a life change or simply feel isolated, we're here to help.
Our volunteers
