Age UK Cornwall & The Isles of Scilly to Celebrate the Grand Opening of thier New Falmouth Sensory Garden
Age UK Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are excited to announce the official opening of their new sensory garden at the Age UK Falmouth Community Hub on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 12:00 PM. We would love it if you could join us for the big day!
The ceremony will feature a ribbon-cutting by the Mayor of Falmouth, and celebrate our new pilot ‘Growing Together’ and the impact that this new vibrant space will provide for Falmouth.
Working in Partnership
Located at the historic former Passmore Edwards Cottage Hospital on Killigrew Street, the garden has been developed with support from a £20,000 grant from The National Lottery Community Fund. This initiative has transformed a rather tired unused outdoor area at the Hub into a welcoming and accessible garden, aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of older individuals attending the Community Hub.
The new garden boasts accessible pathways, raised planting beds, sensory plantings, fragrant flowers, vibrant seasonal displays, and areas designed for relaxation, social interaction, and gentle gardening activities.
Volunteers are essential to this project!
We would also like to take this moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to our amazing volunteers and staff; we simply could not provide the same level of support without your contributions. Volunteers enhance our communities, making them stronger, more vibrant, and more compassionate places to be.
We are currently seeking additional volunteers to assist with activities and support services (like Growing Together) at our Falmouth community hub. Whether you can spare 1 to 2 hours or 1 to 2 days a week, we would be thrilled if you registered your interest by either emailing volunteering@ageukcornwall.org.uk or calling us at 01326 316880.

Lucy Downing, Falmouth Hub Manager, stated:
“This garden holds significant value for our community. It offers our clients a safe and uplifting environment to engage with nature, reminisce, spend quality time together, and feel a connection to the outdoors. Additionally, it paves the way for new initiatives and pilots aimed at enhancing health and wellbeing for both our Active Living and Community Hub services.”
Age UK Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly collaborated with local garden landscaping company Muddy Wellies Gardens to bring this project to life.
Jeff Muir, Active Living Gardening Service Team Lead at Age UK Cornwall & The Isles of Scilly, expressed:
“We are immensely thankful to The National Lottery Community Fund, Muddy Wellies, and our passionate staff & volunteers for making this project a reality. This garden provides a practical and inviting space where older adults can enjoy the outdoors, participate in gentle gardening activities, and strengthen their bond with nature and each other."
“For us, the garden is more than just a beautiful area; it serves as a foundation for introducing more nature-based wellbeing activities into the lives of our Hub clients.”
