Lots of the activities that took place at Drovers are in the process of moving to six nearby community centres, and will form part of an extended network of Age UK Islington Get Together activities. The hugely popular Watercolour Class, run by the incredibly talented Volunteer Tutor, Ros, has moved across to the Cally Clock Tower (photo of Andrea, Arts & Partnership Co-ordinator and two of the watercolour group was in our newsletter this month). And the brilliant Bowling group, led by Mark from Arsenal in the Community, is now up and running at Nailor Community Centre.
We went along to see how they were getting on in their new homes. Mark said, "This bowling group is unique among all the clubs I support...they sit and watch, clap and chat while they're waiting. Its an incredibly sociable group!"
Andrea, Arts & Partnership Co-ordinator asked the others from the group what they thought of the new home for bowling....
"Its a shame that some of the people that used to sit and not play, have not come over, but I think [the space] its wonderful! Really nice to have a place to have lovely chats and a connection with older people." Synnove, Volunteer.
"It seems nice. It has everything we need, and its nice and clean. Its like everything, a bit strange at first, but we have to get used to it!" Joan.
"So far, so good! Not a lot more I can say. I like it so far though!" Anthony
Its fine for me coming here, just 15 mins walk. My Dad used to live across the road, so I used to come to parties here in Nailor. Its the second nearest centre to me". Yusuf
I like it. Mind you, I've been here before. I used to ocme and play bingo here. Its a lovely centre. And I like the parking! I can park right outside the door." Fred
