Thursday Murder Club Film and Age UK

Published on 29 August 2025 03:58 PM

At the UK premiere of The Thursday Murder Club film, on 21 August in Leicester Square, Richard Osman, the author, spoke about championing older voices in film and the importance of giving older people a stronger platform on screen, according to The Independent.

Age UK national's chief executive, Paul Farmer, was also present, highlighting the film's focus on the incredible talents of older people and the joy it brings to see them involved in solving a crime - see the YouTube video below. The film, adapted from Osman's best-selling novel, features an all-star cast including Dame Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Sir Ben Kingsley, Celia Imrie, David Tennant and Richard E. Grant.

Local Islington artists took part in the premiere

There was a strong local connection to the film’s premiere - with talented artists from Islington participating in a special re-creation of a scene from the film (Ann, Pauline, Lorraine and Ruben).

The scene features an art class held on the grounds of a retirement community, and the local artists brought it to life by painting for about an hour on large canvasses, before attending the premiere.

The film's premiere was ahead of its release on 22 August in 30 select cinemas, and its streaming debut by Netflix on 28 August 2025.

If you're interested in art, Healthy Generations has a weekly online Art Appreciation session, on a Tuesday, led by accomplished volunteer host Manmeet Rama.

Art Appreciation In-Person Visit to the Sir John Soane Museum.

Following a recent virtual tour hosted by the Sir John Soane Museum, we are extremely fortunate to have been invited to visit the museum on Tuesday 9th October.  Housed in Lincoln's Inn Fields, Holborn, the museum was once home to neoclassical architect, Sir John Soane, who became one of the leading collectors of his time.  Collection highlights include Hogarth's 'The Rake's Progress,' Canaletto, and J.M.W. Turner.

This is an in-person visit, and will start with a brief introductory talk in the Library-Dining Room, before visitors explore the collection at their own individual pace. Given the size of the museum (and collection) we are limited to 20 free tickets.  This visit will be coordinated in September.

If you would like receive further information on this visit, and to attend, please join Art Appreciation, by clicking: https://healthygenerations.org.uk/art-appreciation/
