Golfers swing into action to support charity golf day

22 June 2016

Local golfers showed their support at our Charity Golf Day and helped raise around £4,000 for Age UK Rotherham

Golfers playing golf

This was the first golf event we have held in Rotherham and it was generously supported by the local community, with twenty teams competing for the Oxley and Coward 225th Anniversary Trophy.

Rotherham Golf Club Captain, Kevin Popplewell, said he was proud that Rotherham Golf Club had been selected as the perfect backdrop for a great day of golf.

Julie Benson, Fundraising Officer, said, ‘We are most grateful to our local community and business sponsors who made the event possible. We were delighted with the number of teams taking part in our first ever charity golf day tournament in Rotherham and would like to say thank you to everyone who contriuted, including the people who took part, donated gifts and supported the event to make the day an overall success.’

The trophy winning team was Wing Plastering, made up of Mark Hubbard, Chris Conner, Callum Conner and Gary Summerfield, who also each won a Ping putter.

The second prize was awarded to Richard Farrand, John Jesson, Ian Booth and Mark Hamey who all won golfing shirts and a team four-ball to play at Hickleton Golf Club.

Third prize winners were Julian Maturi, David Allsopp, Jason Pickett and Bailey Gill who each won a tray of special brewed beers and golf balls. Our Nearest the Pin winner was John Crawshaw who won Sunday lunch for four at Ye Olde Bell Hotel and Restaurant.

Thank you to everyone who supported this year's event and helped to make is such a success - our sponsors The Gilder Group, Oxley and Coward and Allotts and everyone who generously donated prizes for our raffle and charity auction.
