Grey Matters at Age UK Rotherham

03 April 2017

A huge congratulation to our EngAge Rotherham Affiliated Group, Grey Matters in Todwick, which has been recognised by being awarded a Duke of York's Community Initiative Award for its superb work supporting older people in the local community.

The Duke of York’s Community Initiative is a Royal Award presented to community projects based in Yorkshire. Award winning groups/organisations need to be owned, developed and led by the people they serve as well. The winners are recognised as providing a real value to the community, being well run and being an inspiration to others.

Grey Matters meet on a Friday afternoon between 2.00pm and 4.00pm in the Church Hall (Lindleys Croft, S26 1HN). The group provides a variety of activities including quizzes, board games (there are some very keen scrabble and rummikub players), talks, crafts, trips out and generally the chance for a laugh and conversation of a hot drink and a biscuit.  Afternoon tea at Todwick Grey Matters Group

Lesley Dabell, Age UK Rotherham Chief Executive said, ‘It is always fantastic to hear news of our affiliated groups and to see them flourishing. This is a massive achievement for Grey Matters and we know just how much hard work went into the application. We are very proud of them and look forward hearing more about their day out in London.’

The group will now be recognised with this year’s other award winners at a Yorkshire ceremony (which will this year be held in Huddersfield) and at St James’ Palace in London, in which they will be presented their award by HRH Prince Andrew.

Grey Matters is always looking for new members. So if you are interested in getting involved with this award winning group – give the Age UK Rotherham offices a call on 01709 910 699.
