How the service can help you?

The Memory Loss Advice Service has two dementia advisers and a Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) adviser. The service provides a regular point of contact and ongoing support, prior to and after a diagnosis.

Our team offers advice and support to those with dementia and their carers. They provide guidance prior to and post diagnosis, including helping you to understand what a diagnosis of dementia will mean for you and your family.

The support offer includes – helping to apply for Attendance Allowance, advising how to address concerns with the GP and accessing support from social services, how to obtain Lasting Power of Attorney, completing Herbert Protocol and advanced care planning.

In addition to telephone-based support, we hold the following monthly sessions:

• Two monthly peer support meetings for people with memory loss and their carers in Urmston and Hale Barns

• Advice sessions in Urmston, Sale and Stretford, where you have the opportunity for face-to-face support with a Memory Loss Advisor

We also aim to raise awareness of dementia in our community by attending many local events.

The service is supported by Trafford Borough Council, and we work closely with Trafford Memory Assessment Service and other local organisations.

Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) Advice

If you have been diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment, our Memory Loss Advice Service is here to provide advice, information, and support. Our advisors will keep in touch with you to assist you in understanding and managing your diagnosis. They can help you access information on the latest evidence on preventing or delaying possible progression to dementia.

We also hold a twice monthly group called Blossom Out for people with MCI. The group includes information on MCI, an exercise session, and a cognitive stimulation session. It is also an opportunity to socialise with others who have the same diagnosis.
