In celebration of Volunteers' Week 2025, Age UK Wandsworth was thrilled to highlight the inspiring and invaluable work of our volunteers, who are crucial to our social purpose: ‘to help older people in Wandsworth age well'. Volunteers' Week, is an annual event which this year ran from 2nd to 8th June 2025, celebrates the amazing contributions volunteers make across the UK.
Here at Age UK Wandsworth, we honoured our dedicated volunteers with a special Volunteer Appreciation Party on June 19th. This was our way of saying a huge "thank you" for their hard work and commitment, complete with snacks, drinks, and a quiz game with prizes!
We also attended a Link UP London party to celebrate and shine a light on the incredible impact that skilled volunteers make in our community. There we met Ian Dyson, Deputy Lieutenant of Wandsworth, pictured centre with our CEO Natalie de Silva and our skilled volunteer Urvashi Patel MBE, who we call Mita.
The Power of Giving Back: Why Volunteer?
Volunteering offers immense benefits, not just to those helped but also to the volunteers themselves. Studies show it significantly improves mental health and wellbeing. Beyond learning new skills and gaining valuable work experience, volunteering is a fantastic way to make new friends, build confidence, and truly 'give back' to the community. This leads to increased feelings of wellbeing – when we make others feel good, we feel good too!
One of our wonderful volunteer Mita, is now retired and uses her expertise from her career to support our Information and Advice Service team:
"I love volunteering for Age UK Wandsworth. It makes me feel good and makes me feel like I am giving back to the community, using my skills, knowledge and experience from my previous job. I very much enjoy working with people and helping people.”
Get Involved!
Our volunteers come from diverse backgrounds, all bringing warmth and a genuine desire to help. We deeply appreciate their time supporting essential services for older people in Wandsworth, including Befriending, expert advice, Day Centre support, and our Digital Inclusion and Community Engagement Programmes. The impact they have on people's lives cannot be underestimated.
