The generosity of gifts we receive in Wills is significant in helping us continue our work in the local community. If you decide to leave a gift in your will to us, you will be supporting us to make life better for older people in Wandsworth.

Every single gift is important to us.
We, and the people we help, appreciate any gift you may choose to make, no matter the value. Take a look at our brochure to find out more about legacy giving and the difference it can make.

In addition to our brochure, we also have a more detailed information guide to explain the process and how any gift you leave might help us.

It is important to specify Age UK Wandsworth, rather than Age UK, if you wish the gift to be spent helping people locally.

Why is it important to have a will?

At Age UK Wandsworth, we work hard to help ensure people can age well and lead independent and fulfilling lives for as long as possible. The sad but inescapable truth is, however, that we are all going to die at some stage.  Knowing this means that making a Will at a time of your life when you can think clearly is important. It is important because it’s the only way to ensure that after you die your “estate” goes firstly to the people and causes you love and support. Your “estate” means everything you own, including your money, property, possessions and investments.

A well thought through and professionally prepared Will ensures:

  1. That your wishes will be respected and reassures loved ones that they are doing the right things on your behalf.

  1. You can help to avoid disputes and arguments, especially at an already difficult time.

  1. You can make clear distributions of money and treasured personal items.

  1. You can use your Will to outline decisions such as funeral preferences.

  1. Lower legal costs and potentially reduces any tax due.

Simply put, it makes it easier for everyone involved and gives you peace of mind.

How do I write a will?

If I already have a will?

If you already have a will and you want to include a gift to Age UK Wandsworth in it, there may not be need to rewrite it. You can ask a qualified professional such as a solicitor to add an amendment (called a codicil) or you may wish to simply write a 'letter of wishes' to guide the hand of your executors.

What kind of gift can I leave to Age UK Wandsworth?

You can leave a specific sum of money or an item such as jewellery or a piece of art. Or you can leave a share in, or all of, what's left of the value of your estate after family and friends have been taken care of. The advantage of leaving a share (also known as residuary gift) is that it remains the same over time, and you won't need to change your will to keep up with inflation. Significant gifts should be written into the will or 'codicil' but for moderate bequests or specific items, (i.e. not a significant proportion of your estate), you could use a “Letter of Wishes” and give it to your executors for safekeeping.
