Information & Advice
Information & Advice Service
Our highly trained, experienced, and friendly advisers offer impartial and confidential information and advice on a wide range of issues affecting older people in Bedfordshire. This includes everything from referrals to local services and community groups to more in-depth advice and practical support. We focus primarily on:
- Pension-age means-tested benefits
- Disability-related benefits for individuals aged 50 and above, including Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Attendance Allowance (AA)
- Blue Badge Applications
- housing advice services
- Signposting below pension age benefit enquiries to specialist a advice services (we no longer offer direct advice but can guide clients to the right support)
- Providing accurate literature and guidance on topics such as health and social care, helping individuals make informed decisions
There is no charge for this service, but we welcome donations, especially from those who have had successful outcomes as a result of our support.
If you are housebound and unable to visit our office, we will do our best to arrange a home visit or telephone appointment depending on availability.
We also offer a free 15-minute monthly consultation with a highly experienced legal case worker, available by appointment only.
Our Information & Advice Service is part-funded by Bedford Borough Council and Central Bedfordshire Council, but it also relies heavily on donations and fundraising activities. Without this support, the service would not exist. Last year alone, we helped older people in our county to claim over £2 million in benefit entitlements.
If you need support for yourself, a family member, or someone you are concerned about, please contact us today. Our phone lines are open Monday to Friday, 9am–4pm.
If you would like to support the service—either by making a donation or training to volunteer as an adviser—please contact Karina James (Information and Advice Manager) by telephone, in writing, or by email. Your support is greatly appreciated and will be acknowledged personally by our Chief Executive Officer, Steve Perry.
