Monthly Dementia Cafe

Published on 05 October 2023 10:09 AM

Age UK Berkshire and Home Instead are excited to announce a heartwarming collaboration with the Fox and Castle in Old Windsor, bringing forth a brand-new initiative aimed at fostering a supportive community – the Monthly Dementia Cafe. This remarkable event is set to take place on the first Monday of every month, offering a haven for individuals and their caregivers who are dealing with dementia.

The inaugural launch of this inspiring venture took place on the 2nd of October, and it was nothing short of a triumph. To make the occasion even more special, Windsor Mayor, Councillor Neil Knowles, graced the event with his presence, engaging in meaningful conversations with attendees throughout the entire duration of the cafe.

"We had 20 cared for, carers and professionals," commented Steve Sansom, who helped coordinate the new cafe. "The beautiful gardens at the pub were just right for this event."

What sets this Monthly Dementia Cafe apart is its inclusivity. Not only did it attract people, but it also extended its warm embrace to furry friends. Luna, the Cocker Spaniel, and Foxy, the beloved Pub Cat, were present, adding an extra layer of comfort and familiarity to the gathering. It truly felt like a family event, where bonds were forged and cherished memories were created.

"I have seen the success of dementia cafes at other pubs," added Steve. "I can only see this one growing and growing."

Mark your calendars, because this invaluable Monthly Dementia Cafe will be a recurring event, held on the first Monday of every month from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Fox and Castle, located at 21 Burfield Road, Old Windsor, SL4 2RB. No prior booking is required; simply join us and be a part of this compassionate community. As a bonus, there will be refreshments available for purchase, along with complimentary biscuits to make your visit even more enjoyable.
