In partnership with Manchester Camerata the Jubilee Centre hosts weekly Music Cafe on Tuesday afternoons.

Music in Mind - Music Cafe

The Music in Mind programme supports people living with dementia and their carers as part of the UK's first Centre of Excellence for Music and Dementia.

Do you know someone with dementia that would enjoy creating music and be part of a large community?

Please bring them along to a music session.
It will be a great experience for them and it’s free.

Sessions are on Tuesday afternoons at 14.45 pm.
Refreshments are served before the session at 14.15 pm.

More details below.

Who is behind it?

Our Music Cafés are part of Manchester Camerata's Music in Mind programme.

Music Café sessions have been developed from long term research by the University of Manchester and leading dementia experts. They use principles based on music therapy to improve the health and wellbeing of people with dementia and their carers.

Who is it for?

It’s for people who are living with dementia and their carer. You could come with your spouse, your friend, a family member, a carer, whoever you want to have fun with!

Music Cafés are suitable for people at any stage of their dementia.

What to expect at a session

• We sit in a circle
• You can sit next to the person you’ve come with
• We have a table full of percussion instruments to choose from.
• Together we'll make some music. You can start off a beat and we’ll join in, or we might lead a simple musical activity.
• There will be a mix of improvised music
• Talk is limited as we like to concentrate on the music
• Sometimes there’s singing, sometimes there’s dancing - whatever you feel like!

Parking & Access

• There is a free car park and spaces for Blue Badge holders.
• There is also on-street parking next to the Jubilee Centre on the surrounding residential streets.
• The Jubilee Centre is wheelchair accessible.
• Toilets available.
• If you’re hard of hearing, visually impaired, or have any special needs, that you would like us to be aware of, just let us know.

Booking for seesions

No need to book. The Bury Music Café is a drop-in session.

Just turn up on the day. We’ll just ask you to register when you arrive.

If you want to let us know you’re coming, you can call Jubilee reception on 0161 763 9030 or email jubilee@ageukbury.org.uk
