One of our befrienders, Angela Kulanayagam, has won the Jo Cox Commission on Loneliness Award, one of the categories of Age UK’s ‘Spirit of Awards’ event. Angela has been befriending since Feb 2015 and during that time has visited 10 clients in total resulting in 346 visits (692 hours). At one time she was visiting 6 clients each week spread all over the borough. She listens to their good and bad times, comforts them, enjoys a cup of tea whilst chatting and laughs together with them.
This is an outstanding contribution to our befriending service and to Croydon’s elderly clients. Angela was accompanied to a special evening ceremony at the Merchant Taylors' Hall in London on Wednesday 28 June by Geeta Shah, our Visiting Services Coordinator, who was representing all of our befrienders.
