New partnership with Colt brings digital support to older East Londoners

Last week, 18 older people using Age UK East London services, were welcomed to Colt Technology Services for a second ‘techy tea party.

The event marked our new partnership with Colt, who have come on board as our latest local partner. Thanks to their support, older East Londoners will now be able to join six-week digital inclusion courses at the Marie Lloyd Centre in Hackney. Participants will be offered friendly support, and help from Colt volunteers at regular techy tea parties, which includes, afternoon tea, tech help, and good company.

In East London, 53% of people over 65 don’t have internet access. Many who do say they struggle with confidence and basic skills. Whether it’s checking Council services, using the NHS app, or finding the best deals online, the digital world can feel out of reach. Our partnership with Colt aims to change that.

At the tea party, Colt volunteers served up a delicious afternoon tea while helping guests troubleshoot their devices, explore useful apps, and get more confident online.

Some highlights from the day:

  • Alan discovered voice-to-text typing, “They showed me voice to text, and it’s so useful. I really hate typing, even on a laptop, but voice to text is a breeze.‘”
  • Lenette was helped set up a new app, “‘I had all these empties to recycle with Boots, and they helped me to download the correct app and so I can get points for recycling.”
  • One guest got set up on Vinted to find affordable clothes.
  • Another learned how to share her location with family for peace of mind.

We're excited about this growing partnership with Colt and the opportunities it brings so that older people feel empowered, connected, and included.
