Act Now, Age Better

Let's make a move towards a better later life
More people are living longer and at Age UK Gloucestershire we believe this is something to celebrate and enjoy. However, when many people think of the word ‘ageing’ it conjures up images of frailty, walking sticks or perhaps a well-used armchair. But even though growing older can come with its challenges, this stereotypical attitude can create a belief that decline is inevitable and stop us preparing fully for later life and giving ourselves the best chance of ageing in good health.
Our Act Now Age Better initiative begins with a focus on staying active. Taking small steps to make changes in our 50’s and early 60’s can lead to major benefits down the road. Every bit of activity counts, from bit-sized movements to longer sessions so whether you want structured activities like going to the gym or joining a sports team, or you simply choose to start incorporating more physical activity into your daily life, it all makes a difference.
Movement is your secret weapon to staying strong and our leaflet provides simple and effective ways you can start adding more activity into your life right now. GP and health coach Dr Hussain Al-Zubaidi who has partnered with Age UK, also shares his advice and tips for success.
