Dementia

Let's start the conversation!

Everyone's heard of dementia. Most people know someone who has lived with or who are currently living with dementia. A lot of what you read about it is negative, the language that is associated with it, the stories that you hear, and the fact that there is no cure... yet. People hear the word dementia and, like with a lot of illnesses, jump straight to the worst-case scenario, bury their head in the sand, and hope it will go away. But this doesn't stop the worry, uncertainty, and stress for both the individual living with dementia and their loved ones.

What if there was another approach? One where we're open, where we ask questions, make plans and share our experiences to help others? Life with dementia doesn't have to be surrounded by negativity! There are many organisations in Gloucestershire who offer advice and support, who can help you and your family live well with dementia. We just need to talk about it...

This year, Age UK Gloucestershire once again teamed up with One Gloucestershire to bring a week full of events and activities for 2025 Dementia Action Week. This provided people with the chance to ask questions and get much needed information surrounding dementia. The team focused on dementia prevention, diagnosis, support and living well, personalised care, planning ahead and carer support.
