Giving Older People a Stronger Voice
At Age UK Gloucestershire, when we talk about inclusion, we mean making sure that every older person feels listened to, supported and valued. Growing older should never mean feeling invisible.
We know that in a rural county like ours, many people can feel isolated - whether it’s because buses are few and far between, family live miles away, or local services are harder to reach. That sense of being cut off can have a big impact on wellbeing.
That’s where our Help Team comes in. They’re on hand to give practical advice, point people in the right direction, and most importantly, to listen. Sometimes it’s a simple phone call that makes all the difference, reminding someone they’re not alone and that their voice matters.
We also work hard to make sure those voices are heard at a wider level through our Voice of Older People initiative. This gives older people across Gloucestershire - especially those living in rural communities - the chance to share their experiences and influence decisions that affect their lives. By bringing their perspectives directly to local conversations and decision-makers, we help ensure no one is left out or overlooked.
Inclusion isn’t just about fighting loneliness - it’s about helping older people stay connected and confident, wherever they live. We want everyone in Gloucestershire to feel part of their community and to know that support is only ever a call away.
