Knowing where to turn for information and advice is essential to help you navigate later life
Age UK Gloucestershire’s Help Team can provide you with a range of impartial information to help you remain safe and independent at home, for as long as you want to, and help you make informed choices about all aspects of later life.
Our experienced, friendly team can tell you about our own services or, if we are unable to provide what you’re looking for, put you in touch with the most appropriate organisation to meet your needs. We can provide you with support and information to help you lead a safe and comfortable later life, including:
- Signposting to local organisations who can help you with queries such as local transport options and finding opportunities to make social connections in your community
- Help to navigate the social care system including finding care and how it’s funded
- Ensuring you have enough money, offering free benefits checks and helping you claim any benefits you may be entitled to
- Advice on staying warm at home, home adaptations and how to prevent falls
Applying for Attendance Allowance
Attendance Allowance is extra money available to you if you need additional help with personal support, or supervision to keep you safe at home due to an illness or disability. Entitlement is based on the help you require, not the help you actually get. AA is not taxable, is not based on National Insurance contributions, and it is not means-tested, so you do not have to give details of your income or savings. Many older people spend the money on things to help them remain independent at home, for example, to pay for heating bills, the delivery of pre-cooked meals or taxis to get you to appointments or social activities.
Our Help Team can provide advice about claiming Attendance Allowance, so call the Team on 01452 422660 and press option one, if you would like to know more. You can also download Age UK Attendance Allowance leaflet together with our helpful Guide to completing your Attendance Allowance Application.
We can arrange for you to receive a copy of our free Guide to Later Life in Gloucestershire, which contains lots of useful information about care and support and how to manage some of those changes which occur as we get older. You can read the Guide online here
Help Team is of course confidential, free, independent, and just a phone call away.
