Positive Practices for Older Persons Mental Health
This course will be taught by a highly qualified local CBT/EMDR Psychotherapist.
Course Aims:
This course aims to enhance awareness, understanding, and effective responses to the unique mental health needs of older adults. It will cover common mental health concerns in later life, age related considerations in diagnosis and treatment, and barriers to accessing care. Learners will also be equipped with knowledge about local services and referral pathways.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Recognise common mental health conditions in older adults, including depression, anxiety, and dementia.
- Understand the unique challenges and presentations of mental ill health in older populations.
- Understand appropriate treatment approaches and adjustments needed for older clients.
- Learn how to act when an older client has suicidal thoughts and mental health crises.
- Recognise barriers older people may face in accessing NHS Talking Therapies and other mental health services.
- Signpost effectively to local and national support services.
- Navigate local referral processes
