Carers Rights Day 2020

Carers Rights Day

Published on 28 October 2020 02:03 PM

Join us for Carers Rights Day!

We do hope you can join us for this special online Carers Rights Day on Thursday 26th November.

Whether you are a new carer or have been caring for someone for a while, it’s important that you understand your rights as a carer and are able to access the support that is available to you as soon as you need it.

We're going to be bringing partners together to share information with you and other Islington carers, in a series of free sessions for this special day.

You can book the individual session(s) that you're most interested in, or you can book all of them.  To do so, simply click the button below each event to email your booking request to the Islington Carers Hub Team.

New to Zoom and online events?

As always, if you're new to online meetings, we can help you to try out a Zoom meeting in advance of the day.  Let the Carers Hub team know when you book

10.00 – Welcome & Introduction to Carers Rights Day

The Mayor of Islington

The Mayor of Islington, Councillor Janet Burgess, will be welcoming everyone to Carers Rights Day.

Islington Carers Hub

Ismail Bahriyeli will be talking about the key issues we’ve been hearing about from our clients and presenting the support available for carers (18 yrs +) through Islington Carers Hub (delivered by Age UK Islington).

Centre 404

Centre 404 will be giving an insight into their support for people with learning disabilities or autism and their families.

11.00 - Carers & Mental Health

Camden & Islington NHS Foundation Trust

Carers play an important role in supporting people who use Camden & Islington NHS Foundation Trust services. Carers provide both emotional and practical support which can help others to live a more rewarding and independent life. If you provide help or support for a relative, friend of partner who has mental health problems then you are a carer.  C&I is committed in making sure that as a carer:

  • Your views are heard
  • You get the support that you need
  • You get all the necessary information that you may need

12.00 - Housing related issues affecting Carers

Kenniston Housing Association

Sharing practical housing advice specifically for carers:

  • Housing lettings policies involving carers
  • Inheritance issues faced by carers living in rented accommodation where the cared for person dies
  • Options for moving home
  • Carers and Housing Benefit/Universal Credit
  • Priority repairs during Covid

13.00 - Fun online fitness session

Ageless Grace

Ageless Grace is fun fitness for all. Exercise to upbeat music and work at your own ability. There's nothing choreographed and nothing to learn or remember, and it's all from sitting. At the same time, it activates 5 functions of the brain - analytical, strategic, kinaesthetic learning, memory/recall, creativity and imagination.

15.00 Emotional Resilience

Recovery College

Emotional Resilience is the ability to adapt to stressful situations, and cope with life’s ups and downs. The Recovery College is going to be talking to us about “Tea and Talk”. This is a new series of co-produced talks about mental wellbeing with the C&I Recovery College. The talks are designed to promote openness around mental health and to encourage people to start thinking about how we better address our own needs.

16.00 Lasting Power of Attorney & Future Planning

Gentle Dusk & Age UK Islington

Find out why it’s so important to set up Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA), as a carer, and what you can do to put one in place. Lasting Powers of Attorney are legal documents that allow you to appoint one of more people to help you make decisions or to make decisions on your behalf.

Don't put it off organising Lasting Power of Attorney until tomorrow!  Join us for practical advice and the opportunity to get answers to your questions, so you'll be equipped with the "know-how" to get this organised!

The Islington Carers Hub team is looking forward to meeting you online for these valuable information sessions.  Any questions, feel free to email us on info@islingtoncarershub.org.

Yes, I want to attend a session!

I'd like to attend a Carers Rights Day online session and get to know my rights as a carer!
