New research from the Royal Horticulture Society and the universities of Sheffield, Westminster and Virginia reveals that filling a bare front garden with a handful of plants has the same stress-reducing impacts as attending eight mindfulness sessions.
The mental health benefits of gardening have long been touted but did you know more people have taken up gardening since the Covid pandemic and lockdown started than any other hobby?
Fortunately, the annual Islington in Bloom competition is back and is a great opportunity to show off your newfound gardening skills and benefit from some stress reducing activity. And if you were not one of the millions of people who started a veggie patch in lockdown why not start now. There are a number of categories to enter including Best Window Box, Best Community Garden and a brand-new category in 2021- Best Edible Garden.
There are some great prizes to be won and every entrant will receive a free bag of compost from Camden Garden Centre.
Details of the competition and how to enter can be found at Islington in Bloom.
