Thursday Murder Club Film and Age UK

At the UK premiere of The Thursday Murder Club film, on 21 August in Leicester Square, Richard Osman, the author, spoke about championing older voices in film and the importance of giving older people a stronger platform on screen, according to The Independent.
Age UK national's chief executive, Paul Farmer, was also present, highlighting the film's focus on the incredible talents of older people and the joy it brings to see them involved in solving a crime - see the YouTube video below. The film, adapted from Osman's best-selling novel, features an all-star cast including Dame Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Sir Ben Kingsley, Celia Imrie, David Tennant and Richard E. Grant.
Local Islington artists took part in the premiere
There was a strong local connection to the film’s premiere - with talented artists from Islington participating in a special re-creation of a scene from the film (Ann, Pauline, Lorraine and Ruben).
The scene features an art class held in the grounds of a retirement community, and the local artists brought it to life by painting for about an hour on large canvasses, before attending the premiere.
Lorraine shared, "It was a magical afternoon, being able to make a painting in Leicester Square as part of the celebration of the opening of the Thursday Murder Club. We had around an hour and a half to capture the scene of a model, a couple of llamas (who didn’t make good models) and a police car! We then got to walk along the red carpet into the cinema to see the premier…… it then became clear that four artists, model , llamas and police car are all included in the film! I’m sure the other artists would agree this was a very memorable afternoon/ evening!"
The film's premiere was ahead of its release on 22 August in 30 select cinemas, and its streaming debut by Netflix on 28 August 2025.
