Befriending
At Age UK Lincoln & South Lincolnshire one of the ways we try to combat loneliness in later life is through our Befriending Service.

The Befriending Service is for people who feel lonely and isolated, especially due to frailty and/or physical impairment which prevent them from leaving their homes to enjoy companionship. As little as half an hour a week can make such a difference to an older person struggling with loneliness. The service is enjoyed by both the client and the volunteer, having a positive effect on their wellbeing.
Eligibility Criteria
The service supports older people living in the following areas of Lincolnshire;
Boston - South Kesteven PE post code - South Holland
East and West Lindsey will be open for referrals in September 2025.
Unfortunately we are unable to take any new referrals for Lincoln, North Kesteven and South Kesteven NG post code residents as we are now at capacity in those districts.
Due to the high demand for the service, we prioritise referrals for older people who are unable to get out and about and therefore unable to join local social activities. Due to the rural nature of our area this includes those geographically isolated where there is nothing for them to join locally.
The Befriendee will be over the age of 50, unable to leave their home unaided and not working or seeking employment. They will not be receiving a befriending service from another organisation.
