Our Befriending Services are for people who feel lonely and isolated, especially due to frailty and/or physical impairment which prevent them from leaving their homes to enjoy companionship. As little as half an hour a week can make such a difference to an older person struggling with loneliness.

Enabling Connections

Lincoln only

Enabling Connections is a short-term, face-to-face befriending service designed to support people aged 50+ who are experiencing loneliness or social isolation.

The programme provides up to six months of support, helping people build confidence, reconnect with their community, and work towards personal goals that can improve their social connections, wellbeing and independence.

Eligibility Criteria for Enabling Connections

The service is suitable for people who:

  • Would benefit from one-to-one support to increase confidence and motivation.
  • Want to reconnect with their local community, activities or social networks.
  • Are aged 50 or over and live in Lincoln and are willing to work towards agreed personal goals.

Befriending Service

Countywide - Due to the large area we cover, please check availability in your area, as this fluctuates depended on volunteer capacity.

Eligibility Criteria

Due to the high demand for the service, we prioritise referrals for older people who are unable to get out and about and therefore unable to join local social activities. Due to the rural nature of our area this includes those geographically isolated where there is nothing for them to join locally.

The Befriendee will be over the age of 50, unable to leave their home unaided, not working or seeking employment. They will not be receiving a befriending service from another organisation.

They need to have a desire for companionship to make this a rewarding service for both the volunteer and the service user.
