Our Team of dedicated Independent living advisors are there to support you to live independently for as long as possible.

How our Independent Living Team can help:

We will contact you for a chat and talk about the sorts of things you are interested in, or would like to try.
We can help you find out about activities, groups and clubs in your area, and arrange to accompany you along to a group if needed until you feel confident enough to do things by yourself.

Our befriending service is there to support those who are experiencing loneliness and isolation with regular conversation and company, this service is for those who are living alone, who do not have regular social contact or are unable to access the community.

We will aim to match you with a volunteer befriender who can arrange regular visits to support with companionship.

Our Befriending service is Free and we have a team of over 100 Befrienders supporting people in the community.

If you'd like more information, please call us on 01305 269444 or email

Telephone Befriending

If you are feeling lonely and isolated, and would like the support of our telephone befriending service, we can link you with a volunteer who can provide regular calls. This service cannot guarantee that you will necessarily be matched with someone who lives in your local area, but will be one of our fantastic volunteers across North, South & West Dorset.

How to become a Befriender?

To become a Befriender you need to apply to volunteer with us.

Our Befrienders let us know their availability and we then we match an older person with them, you can commit to as much or as little as you like, but if you have some spare time, have great communication skills and want to make a difference to the lives of local older people, we would love to hear from you!
