Earth Day 2024
Published on 22 April 2024 02:08 PM
Age UK Wandsworth celebrated Earth Day this year with volunteers and clients at our newly launched gardening group 'Growing Older Together', where members enjoy taking part in gardening activities they are not able to do at home.
We have got off to a flying start since we started the group in March, propagating soft cuttings and sowing seeds, including Cosmos, Sweet Peas and Morning Glory.
Last Thursday, we potted up some summer flowering bulbs. Our group members couldn't wait to get on with the job and enjoyed getting their hands dirty, digging into some fresh compost. Hands washed now and fingers crossed for a colourful display in the Summer!
Our thoughts on this Earth Day are very much about the physical and emotional wellbeing we can experience through tending to the plants in our urban spaces, and how fortunate we are to be able to get together in good company.
Comment from one of our clients: "I've had a lovely afternoon."
One of our volunteers: "it's especially important as we get older that we continue to experience renewal and regeneration through gardening - and enjoy creating a legacy for the future.."
