Age UK Wyvern is sharing the impact it’s had over the last financial year by releasing figures about the scale of its operations. Nearly 4000 older people were helped each month with issues ranging from benefit advice to social activities.

CEO Clare Thomas commented, “We’re delighted to be able to publish this summary of the work we’ve done. Our hardworking and dedicated staff and volunteers have helped improve the lives of older people across South Worcestershire and Herefordshire”.

Over 300 people give up their time to volunteer for the charity. The impact report reveals how 420 hours were devoted to supporting people coming out of hospital last year. Clare Thomas explained the importance of this: “It can be frightening for people to find their feet again after a stay in hospital. Whilst they may be medically well, they are very likely to be worried about going shopping or heavier household jobs like changing bed sheets or hoovering. Our volunteers provide free help for those crucial few weeks after discharge and our feedback shows how vital this assistance is.”

Jill Evans, who has volunteered for Age UK Wyvern for seven years, is featured in the report. She describes the difference her work makes, “I have been a Home from Hospital volunteer for 4 years and it is the most rewarding role I've ever had. It's nice to give something back and it is good for the clients and my own wellbeing. It's such a pleasure to be able to help people. Just doing a small thing for someone can make such a difference to their day. The most important thing for a lot of clients is having someone to talk to. Some can go days without seeing anyone and almost lose their voice. A lot of them have a rich history and have lovely stories to tell”

The charity relies on donations and sales from its 13 charity shops for much of its income. Last year its shops raised £88,810 after overheads were taken off. Anyone interested in helping the charity, either through volunteering their time or through donations are encouraged to get involved today.
