Christmas is underway at Age UK Barnsley!

Christmas is just around the corner, and we're getting into the festive spirit at Age UK Barnsley! From handmade decorations and seasonal celebrations to spreading kindness across our community, there's plenty to look forward to this Christmas.

Here's what's coming up this festive season.

Christmas at The Hut

Our Men in Sheds and She Sheds groups are getting creative with their Christmas woodworking projects! From personalised Christmas Eve boxes and wooden Christmas trees to festive decorations, there's plenty of inspiration for anyone looking to make something special.

Whether you're an experienced DIY enthusiast or fancy having a go at something new, why not join us? Our groups offer a friendly space to learn new skills, get creative and enjoy a cuppa and a chat along the way.

Our weekly sessions are open to people aged 50+:

• Shared Shed: Tuesdays and Wednesdays

• Men in Sheds: Thursdays

• She Sheds: Fridays

Our Christmas Party is SOLD OUT!

Our annual Christmas party at Shaw Lane is officially sold out! A huge thank you to everyone who has booked their place and helped make this event so special.

We're looking forward to celebrating the festive season together, with guests enjoying a delicious Christmas dinner and dessert, alongside live music from FRIDA. It's set to be a wonderful afternoon filled with festive cheer, good company and plenty of Christmas spirit!

The Christmas Kindness Project

This Christmas, we're bringing a little extra kindness to people aged 50+ across Barnsley who may be spending Christmas alone or might not otherwise receive a gift.

Through our Christmas Kindness Project, we're inviting the community to nominate someone who could benefit from a little festive surprise. Selected nominations will be represented by tags on our Christmas tree at VINTage UK Barnsley, on Eldon Street.

Members of the public can choose a tag, purchase a suitable new gift based on the suggestions provided, and return it to the shop for distribution to the nominated recipient.

It's a simple way to make someone's Christmas feel a little brighter and remind them that their community is thinking of them.

Win Christmas 2026

Our Win Christmas prize draw is returning, with some fantastic prizes and festive treats lined up!

The draw will give supporters the chance to win wonderful prizes while helping Age UK Barnsley continue supporting people aged 50+ across our local community. Every ticket purchased will help us make a difference, supporting our work to help people stay independent, connected, active and informed.

We're also welcoming donations of prizes and experiences from local businesses and organisations. Whether it's a gift, a voucher, a special day out or a unique experience, your generosity could help make this year's prize draw even more exciting.

Christmas at our social groups

We're bringing festive fun to our social groups throughout December, with special activities and celebrations planned to help everyone get into the Christmas spirit.

Expect Christmas quizzes, festive tunes, Christmas jumpers, party-style get-togethers and special seasonal food, all alongside the friendly faces and welcoming atmosphere our groups are known for.

Our social groups are a great way to meet new people, enjoy shared interests and stay connected throughout the winter months.
