Our Community Connects 55+ service brings older people together within their local communities, helping to reduce loneliness and isolation and create opportunities to make new connections, share interests and enjoy time with others.

Our Groups

We currently support four established groups across Monmouthshire, which are led and organised by the people who attend them. The groups decide what they would like to do, who they would like to hear from and how they want their group to develop. Our coordinator provides ongoing support, visiting each group regularly to catch up, offer guidance and help them make connections within their communities.

Groups can enjoy a variety of activities, social opportunities and guest speakers. We can help groups to arrange talks and visits from organisations and professionals such as the Police, Fire and Rescue Service, community nurses and other local services. If there is a particular subject or topic that members would like to explore, we will always do our best to help make this happen.

Befriending

The service also offers a befriending service, providing friendly and regular contact for older people who may be feeling lonely or isolated and would benefit from having someone to talk to and connect with.

How We Can Help
The service can help older people to:
• Reduce loneliness and social isolation
• Meet new people and build friendships
• Connect with others who share similar interests
• Improve physical and emotional wellbeing
• Stay connected to their local community
• Have opportunities to learn, share experiences and try new things
• Feel more confident and involved in their community

The service operates Monday to Friday and is in addition to any help that Social Services or other agencies may already be providing.
