Attendance Allowance is a benefit for people over State Pension age who need help with personal care or supervision because of an illness or disability.
Could Attendance Allowance help you or a loved one?
Attendance Allowance is not means-tested and is for people over state-pension age (66). Whilst the amount awarded is based on your needs, you can decide how you spend it. The money you receive does not have to pay for a carer to support you. Do you need some new equipment installed to help you move around the house? Could you could put the money towards heating bills this winter? Would you like to organise meal deliveries or a taxi to help you get to the supermarket or a social group? These are just a few ways you could use your Attendance Allowance, the support could make a real difference to your everyday life.
How much might you receive?
There are two rates of Attendance Allowance which are based on the level of help you need.
• Lower Rate - £61.85 per week if you need help during either the day or the night.
• Higher Rate - £92.40 per week if you need help during both the day and the night.
How to apply for Attendance Allowance.
You will need to submit an application form to apply for this financial support. You can either...
• Call 0800 731 0122 and ask for a form to sent to you in the post or
• Download a form online at https://www.gov.uk/attendance-allowance.
The form is fairly long and does need to be as detailed as possible. Asking for help from family or friends may help you to ensure you are being as clear and honest as possible. If you would like support with your application, we can arrange for our Help Team, or one of our trusted volunteers, to help you complete your application. Please give us a call on 01452 422660 between 9am and 5pm and leave us a message, and we will aim to call you back within 3 working days. Our Help Team will call you back Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.
