National Volunteer Week 2023

Published on 02 June 2023 02:16 PM

Volunteers are the heartbeat of Age UK Herefordshire and Worcestershire, that's why we want to shine a light on the brilliant work that is going on!

Firstly, we wanted to hear from one of our fantastic volunteers why they joined and what it means to be an Age UK Volunteer!

"I've always wanted to be part of something that makes a positive difference to my local community. The wonderful team have made me feel welcome, and my tasks have helped me develop my skills and confidence. I've seen first-hand the real benefits that the services provide to the lives of older people in the area, whether that be through activities tackling loneliness or providing a safe and engaging space for those living with dementia."

They added: "I would highly recommend volunteering for Age UK Herefordshire and Worcestershire and becoming a part of something meaningful. "

Since November, Our brilliant volunteers have spent 502 hours helping tackle loneliness through our Companion Line. This service connects similar people together for regular phone calls to chat and form friendships. It averages 300 monthly calls, which means weekly catch-ups with roughly 60 people. We are proud of this number, but with your support, we can help even more people who feel lonely, isolated or need companionship.
