Our Best Years

The Hull FC Community Foundation is set to launch a new project called ‘Our Best Years,’ which will bring older fans together to celebrate some of their best memories with the club.

Developed in partnership with Age UK Hull and forming part of the Community Foundation’s ‘Teaming Up for Health’ partnership, ‘Our Best Years’ will offer inclusive opportunities for fans to meet new people, make friends, and participate in activities which promote health and social outcomes.

‘Our Best Years’ is set to launch at the MKM Stadium Community Hub from 11.00am on Friday 3rd December, with three weekly sessions before the festive period.

Sessions will resume again in the New Year, focused on increasing physical activity with a mixture of chair exercises, tai chi, walking and other activities.

The brainchild of the project is Maisie Malton, the Community Foundation’s Health & Wellbeing Manager. She said: “We recognise that rates of loneliness and isolation have increased significantly over the last eighteen months whilst Covid-19 has been present.

“We understand the challenges that older people face and we have a better understanding of what activities they would like to access.

“In Our Best Years, we have produced a project that offers inclusive physical activity and social development opportunities such as arts & crafts, music, poetry reading, bingo, quizzes and reminiscence sessions with players from years gone by.”

Kellyjo Fletcher, Charity Activities Co-ordinator for Age UK Hull added: “This is a great way to reduce loneliness and social isolation amongst the older people in Hull and we are grateful for the opportunity to work with the foundation to make this happen.

“These sessions will form part of our proposal to improve wellbeing for older people across the city.”
