Could You Spare a Few Hours at the Weekend? Help Make a Difference at Our Café

Published on 01 August 2026 02:07 PM

At Age UK Hythe, Lyminge & Ashford, we're always looking for ways to support older people across our community, and one of the places where friendships are formed every day is our welcoming café.

We're currently looking for a friendly and reliable volunteer to help us run the café on Saturdays and/or Sundays between 9.45am and 2.00pm. Whether you can commit to one day a week or help occasionally, we'd love to hear from you.

Our café is much more than somewhere to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. For many older people, it's a place to meet friends, enjoy conversation and feel part of the local community. By volunteering a few hours of your time, you'll be helping to create a warm, welcoming environment where everyone feels valued.

No previous experience is needed. Full training will be provided, and our team will be there to support you every step of the way. We're simply looking for someone with a positive attitude, a friendly smile and a willingness to help others.

As one of our café volunteers, you'll be involved in a variety of enjoyable tasks, including:

  • Serving tea, coffee and light refreshments.
  • Using the till (full training provided).
  • Welcoming and chatting with customers.
  • Helping to create a friendly atmosphere for everyone who visits.

Volunteering is also a fantastic opportunity for you. Many of our volunteers tell us they've gained new confidence, made lasting friendships and enjoyed becoming part of a supportive team. Whether you're retired, studying, looking to gain experience, or simply want to give something back to your local community, this role is a rewarding way to spend a few hours each weekend.

Every cup of tea served, every conversation shared and every smile offered helps make a real difference to the lives of older people across Hythe, Lyminge and Ashford. Sometimes it's the small acts of kindness that have the greatest impact.

If you've been thinking about volunteering but weren't sure where to start, this could be the perfect opportunity. You'll be joining a friendly charity that's passionate about supporting older people to live well, stay connected and remain independent.

If you're interested in finding out more, we'd love to hear from you.
