AUKL Service update and how you can help

Published on 02 April 2020 08:53 AM

Here is a quick update on what we are doing to support older people in Leeds

  • We are making proactive calls to the most isolated and vulnerable older people we support to see what help they need and then doing our best to provide that help
  • We have launched a telephone befriending service where staff and volunteers are calling lonely older people for a regular chat over the phone to give them some much needed company and give them a chance to air their concerns and ask for any support they need
  • We are doing emergency shops for older people that do not have family or friends to help
  • Our Hospital to Home service is still operating at St James’ Hospital – taking older patients home once they are discharged from hospital and offer ongoing support to prevent them being readmitted
  • We are continuing to help older people claim benefits and give advice through our Information and Advice team
  • We are supporting older people over the phone with digital help teaching them how to keep in touch with family by using technology

Can you help us? We realise there is a lot of financial uncertainty for businesses and individuals at the moment but if you can help in any way we would be very grateful. Could you consider donating your usual fare to work if you are now working from home, or the money you would have spent on take out coffees or lunches? If you can help, please click on the link below. Thank you.
