Support to pariticipate in wide range of community services
Support from Safe and Independent Living (SAIL) Facilitators who can work with older people and their carers to help them participate in their local community and access the full range of services available, including leisure and social activities to address social isolation and promote physical and mental wellbeing including through seeking to address underlying causes of people’s social care needs
Information and Advice
Specialist free, confidential, non-judgemental Information and Advice for older people and their carers, including advice relating to:
Welfare Benefits - checks and applications
Utilities and other consumer issues
Signposting and identifying suitable support on legal matters, debt and immigration issues
Matching carefully selected and trained volunteers to have a chat, and provide companionship on a weekly or fortnightly basis.
The Handyperon team can help with a wide range of small repair jobs to help older people and their carers live safely and independently at home. The key jobs supported include:
- Hospital discharge
- Home safety
- Falls Prevention
- Odd Jobs - Common odd jobs include changing lightbulbs, putting up blinds/curtains, installing grab rails and securing loose carpet.
- We also help with one-off garden clearance (our garden service is only available during the summer).
- As our aim is to increase the safety of older people in the Borough, we also fit smoke alarms and offer our clients a home fire safety check.
